PostSubject: New Addition   Fri Feb 19, 2010 7:38 pm

Well, the baby decided that he wanted to come early...
I think that was the scariest thing I've ever gone through.
I had to have an emergency c-section because I was bleeding
so badly. Don't know what happened, but we came out ok.
Joshua was 10 weeks early, so he is in the ICU right now.
He has been taken off of the vent, and is now wearing
the cpap. They told us that he has a heart murmur because
he came so early. Planning on treating that for the next
three days. Hopefully the tiny bleed he had in his head is
the same so that we can go forward with the meds to help
his murmur. My little one is a fighter, so all I can do is hope
he keeps fighting like he has been. Soon I will be able to hold
my son without all the tubes and wires. Hopefully in about 4-5
more weeks he will be well enough to take him home.

Well, I almost had good news. They were waiting to
check the results of the bleed in his head, but the
radiologist that was on isn't experienced in reading
these kinds of tests, so we have to wait til mon to
see if they can start the meds for his heart.

They had taken him of of his cpap and had him on just
a nasal cannula, but he didn't do well. His heart kept
skipping and he wasn't getting enough oxygen. Feel
bad that he took a step backward, but he's doing sooo
much better on the cpap. Hehehe he looks like a little
elephant or something. Smile

Let you know when we hear anything else!

Well, he's doing better on the cpap. Guess he's having
less "episodes". Hopefully he keeps being stable and
we'll find out the test results on mon.

Thanks. It's nice to know that you're thinking of me.
I just thought I'd let people know what's going on.

When I called this morning, they said that they've increased
his feeding. They also said that he's been doing great on
the cpap machine and hasn't had an "episode" all day.
Since he's been doing well, they moved him out of his
separate room and into the main room of the NICU. So
that's a good sign.

Just now, I learned that they have read the MRI and head
sono and we finally have some results. They said that there
is no change with no interaventricular hemorraging.
Woohoo!!! Hopefully that means that they will be starting
the meds that will help stop his heart murmur.

Today was a day of good news.

PostSubject: Re: New Addition   Sun Feb 28, 2010 12:55 am

Ok. Almost as soon as I posted that I got a huge
slap in the face. I guess he had a stage one bleed
on the right side of his head and a stage three bleed
on the left side. It sounded pretty bad. Most likely
it will be ok, but theres a remote possibility that it
could cause him to have hydrocephaly. I was pretty
scared there for a while, but the doctor reassured me
that he will most likely be fine and that they've treated
babies with stage 4 bleeds and they have turned out
just fine. Hopefully this will clear up on it's own.

Ok, bad news over. Good news. He is up drastically on
his feedings. He's beeing fed much more than what he
has been and has actually gained 8 oz. He is now 3 lbs
and 15 oz.

He is finally back on the nasal cannula, but was still having
episodes. The nurses tell us that it might have been due
to having the og tube placed. I guess it was irritating him
and causing his sats to go down. I swear if it's not one
thing, it's another...

I've been able to hold him a few more times, so that's good
at least. I really hate being home and not being able to see
him when I want.

Ok, I tried breastfeeding today. Wow. I have to say
it was amusing. His head is sooooo tiny compared to
my boob. Thought I was gonna suffocate the poor
guy. hahahahaha I still think he's too young to be
able to do it, but soon he'll figure it out.

He's doing pretty good. He's still on the nasal cannula,
but he no longer has an IV. He's also getting less O2.
Hopefully soon he'll get out of his little plastic box and
be in a little crib thingy. He just needs to be able to
regulate his temp. He's close though.

Good news again. Joshua is now 4lbs and 12oz. Wow!
He's almost 5lbs now! He is doing better with the
breastfeeding and is starting to take bottles too. He's
getting stronger and stronger and isn't getting so tired
trying to eat. He now is off of the high flow nasal cannula
and is on a regular one. He is getting less O2 now. He is
breathing better and is now getting to wear clothes since
he is better at keeping his temp regulated. Pretty soon
he will be moving out of his little box. I can't wait!
His heart murmur is still there, but seems stable enough
for now. His follow up head sono was good. There is no
new bleed and no dilation of the ventricals. So besides
the murmur, it looks like we just need to get him stronger
to be able to eat without a feeding tube and to be able
to breathe properly to keep his O2 levels up. It's so close
to him being home, I can feel it! Come on, Josh! You
can do it!

Josh is now in a crib! Great news.
They also want me to start coming in more to feed him
instead of having him bottle feed. He's still going down
on his O2 sats, but they aren't as often as they used to
be. So far, he's not doing too bad. I really have hope
that he will be well enough to come home by the end of
next week. I'm so excited!!

Sounds like he might be coming home very soon. Might
even be in less than a week! Yay! Of course he's going
to be on a monitor. Don't care as long as he's home!

Less than 24 hrs til my little boy is home where he belongs!
Too bad he has to come home with O2 and a heart monitor.
Oh well, at least I don't have to pass a check point to visit
him. lol
